The first time you hear Anne Briggs sing Blackwaterside you fall in love a little. Like the other songs chosen, it has that strange ability to transport you to another time and place, somewhere in the past but you're not quite sure when and where.
Another traditional tune, it would later be adapted by her partner Bert Jansch whose own arrangement was copied by Jimmy Page for Led Zeppelin's tabla driven Black Mountain Side.
It's a difficult starting point when a song so sparse already works so well. Hopefully this continues the tradition of interperetation, adding the elements that as performers are current to you. So we have added treated guitars, percussion and analogue synths which weave in and out of the most important element, the song itself.
